WHAT HAPPENS IF THE MEETING RUNS OVER TIME? CAN THE INTERPRETER(S) STAY?
QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENS IF THE MEETING RUNS OVER TIME? CAN THE INTERPRETER(S) STAY?
Everything needs a budget, including time. In order for meetings and events to run successfully and equitably, budgeting correctly for time is a must. Often with the desire to cut cost we disproportionately allot for sufficient time, often forcing service providers into a difficult situation; deciding whether to stay, which could impact pre-scheduled commitments, and cutting off access to those in need. This is a horrible position in which to place interpreters and other access providers. Creating a budget for time and healthily utilizing the two hour minimum allotment of coverage per assignment (see our FAQ on the two hour minimum), you are able to more widely provide for the needs of those invited to your event, as well as set a precedent of best practice for all in attendance.
